The house, built in Westchester County, New York,  follows all the best Mid-century Modern house practices: “a 25-by-95-foot rectangle, composed of a black exposed-steel frame, front and northern elevations clad largely in white glazed brick, and southern and western exposures enclosed by floor-to-ceiling glass sliders.”

The new owners, called Arthur Witthoefft himself (who won the AIA First Honor award for this project) as a consultant to supervise the restoration project.

The architect made visit to the site regularly and, based on the original plan, he adviced to add a  second master bedroom; which was never built for budget reasons and as considered superfluous, after all.

The owners also collaborated actively to the process. “We did tons of research ourselves and took the lead from Arthur (Witthoefft) on every detail” they told to Dwell magazine.

The architect was positively impressed by his clients commitment, admitting his surprise for the problem-solving attitude they had towards the project.

Probably the most astonishing part of this 1957 mid-century modern gem house is the living room, with the fireplace being its real hearth and the amazing wood panelled wall contrasting with the shining and polished white floor.
