An Art Installation You Can not Miss at the VDL Research House

It’s been a while since I published about an event related to mid century modern architecture or modernism.

A couple of days ago I received an email with the invitation to attend the opening of a really cool installation of the worldwide famous artist Xavier Veilhan at the Richard Neutra VDL Research House in L.A.

As you might know, I do not live in California and so I can not attend this event, but I wanted to make a post about it anyway as I think it deserves your visit if you live close to L.A.

The event at the VDL REsearch House is called ARCHITECTONES and it is the first of a series of installations that Veilhan will make in primary modernist houses and buildings around the world.

Curated by Francois Perrin, the exhibition features sculptures throughout the property(VDL REsearch House), from the front garden to the rooftop reflecting pool. Both abstract and figurative, the artworks loosely trace the decades of the last century by focusing on the personal and professional history of Neutra, his times, and Veilhan’s interaction with the house.”

The opening to the public is on Aug. 9th.With a title that pays homage to the “architectons” of Kasimir Malevich, this series extends Veilhan’s practice of creating site-specific installations in important architectural settings. (…) First in a series of installations in Modernist landmarks, the VDL project will be followed by Pierre Koenig’s Case Study House #21 (1958); the roof of Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse, Marseille (1952), set for spring 2013; St. Bernadette du Banlay Church (1966) by Claude Parent and Paul Virilio, Nevers, France; and the Melnikov House (1929) in Moscow.”
