Has anyone purchased and installed a Malm fireplace without an existing chimney?

We are needing to add a shower to this bath, as it is our main/kids/guest bath. We want to keep original sink and tub, of course.

My husband and I are trying to decide whether or not to keep this fireplace.
I like the idea of it but it looks like shoddy craftsmanship
