I’m now working on the landscaping of my home. I would like some opinions on whether I should go with black mulch or gravel?

This is a 1969 tar and gravel roof. Every time it rains, more gravel falls into the gutters and yard.

We are starting to plan our updates/restoration. Thinking about the kitchen floor. The linoleum isn’t in good shape. Was thinking of wood, but now I’m thinking maybe slate.
