My 1953 home has lath and plaster walls with rounded corners and no trim or baseboards. How do we allow space for the expansion gap without baseboards?

I need some help on deciding on a paint scheme for my home. We currently have blue-gray with brown trim (which we don’t like).

I finally chose a new door color. Now to replace the handle, the glass (I hate the designs so much) and figure out a tile for that entry way. Does anyone else have tile in their entry?
