We’re starting to put things back together after painting and would love any suggestions on curtain colors.

  • “Whoa – ceilings and floors are stunning!! I feel like you could go any way, color wise, with drapes.”
  • Do you need curtains? If anything pull shades. Clean and simple. I would also turn the table and add a period appropriate fixture.
  • ” I would do either wood rods with simple ends or black rod iron rods with a white or off white curtain panel. Hang the rods a foot wider in each side of the window and do two panels on each side on each window.
  • White pleated sheers.”
  • “I would suggest very minimal roller shades, in white, rather than curtains..
  • “I love cordless wooden shades. You could go with a color in between the table and the wood in the room. They give clean lines and block view/light when you need that. And to soften them, you could go with some valances for a pop of color.”
  • Any idea on how expensive ONE clear redwood board costs theses days? Just know that if you paint all that redwood you are taking value off of your home. It is 100% worth restoring and restaining, it’s an integral part of your home’s unique design and very special.”
  • We decided on semi opaque roller shades that matched the color of our walls. Turned out gorgeous and they don’t make the room feel any smaller when closed — in fact they add a bit of glow.”
  • “I did a combination of cellular blinds and shears, since our windows face the street. The shears also soften the room. Shears don’t have to be “old lady”.
  • “I’d ditch curtains altogether (too distracting and would clutter the space). I love the MCM approach of making the windows the stars and limiting window treatments as much as possible. There are some fantastic blinds options that would look great in there and offer you whichever level of privacy/sun protection you need. At our cottage (which had the same ceiling as your room has) we went with natural roller blinds because we had no privacy issues for the rooms where we wanted a bit of sun protection. In the main living area we had no blinds at all and the wall of uninterrupted windows made the room look so much bigger.”
