Modern Scandinavian Design Special: Warm Nordic

Danish manufacturer Warm Nordic, was born from the idea that iconic design pieces should not just be confined to a life within international auction houses.

Warm Nordic, founded in 2017 by Danish entrepreneur Frantz Longhi, is a design company built on passion, legacy, and a bold vision. Based in Denmark, the brand made its debut at the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair – where we had the pleasure to meet them – unveiling over 100 pieces in one of the most ambitious launches in recent design memory. More than just a new name in the field, Warm Nordic is a mission-driven project dedicated to reviving the warm, colourful, and human-centred side of Scandinavian design.

A Passion for Mid-Century Modern

At the heart of the company is Longhi’s deep appreciation for mid-century modern design. As a collector himself, Longhi began by furnishing his restaurants with vintage Danish pieces sourced at auctions. The interest sparked by these pieces led him to a powerful realisation: too many iconic designs were fading into obscurity.

Determined not to let them disappear, he began reaching out to the families and estates of mid-century designers. Eventually, he secured the rights to reproduce select works from six influential Danish designers. These reissued classics now form the core of Warm Nordic’s heritage collection:

Philosophy and Values

Speaking with them in Stockholm, we have realised that Warm Nordic isn’t just a name; it’s a philosophy. The brand challenges the conventional view of Nordic design as minimal, cold and muted. Instead, it focuses on warmth—expressed through colour, materials, and form. They make an effort to highlight the joy, comfort and humanity embedded in Scandinavian homes. The collection features a curated colour palette, avoiding mass customisation in favour of cohesion and purpose. Every colour is chosen to complement the materials and the overall vision of the brand.

Equally important is the brand’s desire to build bridges—between the past and the present, between generations, and between styles. While rooted in legacy, the brand actively collaborates with new designers to create contemporary pieces that resonate with the aesthetic principles of mid-century design. This dialogue between eras ensures the collection stays fresh while honouring its roots.

Materials and Production

Craftsmanship is a cornerstone. Most of the brand’s products are made in Denmark and across Europe, depending on where the best quality production can be ensured. Materials like rattan, marble, opal glass, and richly grained woods echo the tactile richness of vintage pieces while meeting modern quality standards.

Warm Nordic avoids stark white finishes, opting instead for warm-toned whites and lighting that enhances the cosy, lived-in feeling central to their identity. Their focus on organic shapes and authentic materials continues the legacy of Scandinavian design while adding a fresh, emotional dimension.
