Given its centrality to mid-century modern, it’s perhaps no surprise that we’ve covered a few houses in Palm Springs lately.

But having referenced some of the core figures—namely, William F. Cody, Donald Wexler, E. Stewart Williams and William Krisel—this one is from one of the lesser known proponents of Palm Springs modernism, Stan Sackley.

Sackley built this house in 1966 for his parents. It displays all the care and character you would expect from an in-the-family project.Unlike some of the previous Palm Springs houses, this has a rather warm complexion. With wall to ceiling wood panelling in Douglas fir, the design also has a fullness of body that contrasts quite clearly with the cool white tones seen in William F. Cody’s Camino Norte House.Even so, this warmth does not preclude certain areas being as bright and airy as the best Palm Springs homes. This contrast is most notable in the wall of windows overlooking the pool, interspersed with wooden frames thick enough to cast lovely shadows from the midday sun.The kitchen, too, is made up with cream coloured cabinets. Again providing a nice contrast with the Douglas fir. On the whole, it’s a lovely piece of work. Do you live in a mid-century or modernist-inspired contemporary house and want to be featured on MidCenturyHome? Contact us: info@midcenturyhome.com
