This House is Designed to Enjoy the Sun Light throughout the Day

Designed by Parsonson Architects, this project features two homes: a main house and a smaller one-bedroom apartment-studio.

The design focuses on keeping the natural beauty of the area intact. Many trees that were already there have been kept, making the buildings feel like a natural part of the landscape.

This careful planning also means that from every corner of the property, there are stunning views – whether it’s the harbor down Hinau Street, the northern stretch along Maire Street, or the hills to the east.

The homes are designed to make the most of the sun’s path, with spaces that catch sunlight all day and outdoor areas protected from rain and wind.

The apartment-studio is cleverly placed on top of the south end, creating a sort of bridge to the main house. This not only gives great views and sunlight to both buildings but also creates a cozy walkway leading to the main house, ending in a charming courtyard by the front door.

The apartment has a deck near the street and the main house’s outdoor areas, with angled louvres for privacy while still letting in light and views.

The property’s design reflects its location between the bushy hills and the harbor, using dark colors and vertical patterns. The outdoor areas bring together local plants from the hills with more common garden plants, creating a beautiful, natural setting.

The seaside feel is also a big part of the design, with light blue exterior panels, colorful gates, and an open layout that connects to the outdoors. This includes a bathroom that opens to an outside shower, adding to the beachy vibe.

The roof and house layout are designed to let in morning sun and provide sheltered outdoor spaces for different weather. The house is naturally ventilated, reducing the need for air conditioning.
