The highlight of this renovation was transforming a 90s kitchen into a timeless space that embraces nature and suits the lifestyle of the people living there. For this task, the homeowners chose Atelier Jones Design, headed by the innovative Raimana Jones.
The original kitchen was functional but lacked style and felt too big and awkward. Jones and her team aimed to create a kitchen that better matched more the owners’ tastes.
They redesigned the kitchen to have distinct sections for different tasks. A key change was removing a wall and putting in steel beams, which opened up the space, making it more inviting and enhancing the view of the outside.
The kitchen’s striking combination of materials and colors gives it a cinematic quality. It merges oiled, reused wood with smooth steel, achieving a look that’s both modern and modest.
The color scheme draws from the local scenery, with the steel cabinets painted a soft green and deep red highlights that echo the hues of the area’s native trees. The custom-made lampshades, created by Tom Lopes and incorporating black sand in the clay, give a nod to the nearby seashores.
This makeover turned the kitchen into a vibrant part of the house, filled with inviting smells, vivid colors, and varied textures. Practical additions like open shelving, a movable chopping board, and a dedicated pasta-making space have made it incredibly convenient and user-friendly..
