At Mid-Century Home we not only like Mid-century Modern houses designed and built in the nineteenth century, but also modern houses designed today with a Modernist inspiration.

The GO is a modern house with a Modernist vibe designed by TAL architects in 2014, is located on the west of the city of Monterrey, Mexico, on the highest part of a new residential subdivision. The owners of the GO requested a modern house design that made the best of the site’s conditions, primarily its dominant winds and spectacular views, while staying within a limited budget.

From north to south on the east end of the plot, extends a solid linear volume with three rooms. It is the highest point of many other construction sites, so this structure hover above all other houses giving an impression of flying above the rest, like a bird.

TAL Architects included a steel structure underneath the solid volume which extends over part of the garden while a wooden pergola matches the rest of the outside ornamentations.

Access to the house is through a stairway between two cinderblock walls that frame views of the Sierra Madre. All the main living spaces have uninterrupted views of the mountains and vegetations below since spaces are protected by large glass panes and open terraces.

Under the first floor, on street level, there’s a parking space, the maid’s quarter and a washing area. A concrete volume on the east of the plot, which contains horizontal and vertical circulations, articulates the house’s three levels. The orientation of the house and the placement of its windows generate air-flow and produce shades that allow for the natural regulation of its temperature. The GO House is also energy efficient because of its low air conditioning use.
