What style of door should I choose?

We are stumped on the correct style of door for our house to go with the vertical panes of glass. The original door was replaced in the 90s and this one is horrible. Any suggestions?

  • “Beautiful vertical lines on that entryway — I’d recommend looking through Thermatru’s pulse line. We had our door replaced recently with one of these and are SO happy with the result, which looks much closer to what would’ve originally been on the house (built in ‘59). We were able to select custom hardware, and the installers had it all finished in a couple days. It’s a fiberglass/composite door, but would easily fool most people into thinking it’s real wood. Thermatru’s website lets you build out a custom option and virtually see it installed.”
  • So I actually like this door, just add some color to it instead of that weird natural look up against that dusty, boring old gray. Like red orange or yellow.”
  • “The shape and font of the plaque overhead doesn’t fit with the MCM style, either. Even once you replace the door, this will stand out as not being MCM. Unless this specific plaque has special significance for you, I would have it remade in MCM style or remove it altogether.”
  • “You have enough room to tear it out and frame in a double door or large single door. This set up now has zero security – all they have to do is break the glass and reach in to unlock the door.”
  • “Have you thought of glass? Plus the panel at the top should be glass also.”
  • “I’d strongly consider one with five or six stacked horizontal windows. I think you’ve got plenty of “vertical” going on.”
  • Solid door or a door with a vertical window(s). Horizontal windows on the door will compete against the vertical windows already there.
  • I would do solid slab flat with no window. Let the side windows stand out.
  • “Solid slab or one long vertical like others have posted. I’d go solid myself…. You already have a lot of glass around the door.”
