Long Island architectural firm Kevin O’Sullivan + Associates (KOS+A) highlights the vernacular architecture in the area by creating a house that features local materials.

Located in Amagansett, New York, the eponymous house is cladded with wood inside and out – a material that is prevalent in the region. The front entrance features Fleetwood windows in its foreground, and has notes of zinc beyond.

From there, one enters through a 4 feet wide Mahogany pivot door into a double-height vestibule that continues the Indiana limestone walls of the outside.

At almost 12 feet, the living room opens up into the outdoor swimming pool through expansive glass windows, creating visual transparency and connecting indoor and outdoor spaces. More so, the high ceiling creates an expansive space that is undoubtedly an attraction to the houses in the region.

The materiality of the facade flows through, with mahogany rain screen siding and Indiana limestone paving stones.

The living space actually faces twin courtyards on each side – a guest wing and an oversized swimming pool and an outdoor kitchen. The luxurious outdoor kitchen with fixtures from high-end suppliers such as Boffi Soho and Dornbracht make for a space that is conducive to hosting and gatherings.

The den likewise includes an outdoor patio and dining area, providing a standalone outdoor space that caters to all the essentials of hosting and socializing.

The upper spaces are equally luxurious, with dual stairs that lead up to the sleeping quarters of the Amagansett 5. With bleached white oak floors, each bedroom is a sophisticated sanctuary that has prominent views of the lushious rear yard.
